Podcast Transcription: Metal Monday Ep. 15 - 4.12.2021

Hosts, Nick Snyder and Brett Ekart, talk about their weekend shenanigans and the scrap market prices for the week of March 22, 2021.

Nick:

All right, welcome everybody. Sitting here with Brett, how are you doing?

Brett:

Metal Monday, man. I'm doing good. I love Mondays, so I'm always ready to kind of get this train fired up.

Nick:

The reason I love Mondays is you've got the whole week to get a bunch of shit done.

Brett:

Yep.

Nick:

And on Friday, I get a little more stressed out. It's like, "God, I didn't get this done. I didn't get this done. I didn't get this done." So, I have that feeling on Monday too.

Brett:

Yeah.

Nick:

Which wasn't always that way. There were days where I would despise Mondays.

Brett:

Yeah. I think there's a lot of people that do, but I don't know I like Monday. I like getting up early, go to the gym, knock it down, get myself ready to go, because there's just so much that can get done that needs to get done in the week.

Nick:

Mm-hmm.

Brett:

It's like I feel like if you start... My wife and I will have a glass of wine at night, right?

Nick:

Mm-hmm.

Brett:

And Sundays I'm very cautious. I don't overindulge.

Nick:

Mm-hmm.

Brett:

Because when Monday rolls around, I want to be ready to go.

Nick:

Yeah.

Brett:

Saturdays, maybe I'll overindulge.

Nick:

Yeah.

Brett:

Sunday, no. I'm ready to go.

Nick:

So maybe just one or two glasses Sunday.

Brett:

Yeah, it depends on how the week went.

Nick:

Yeah. Well, not every Monday is the best when we open up the apps to check the markets, so copper's... everything's off really.

Brett:

There's one positive note, Palladium-

Nick:

Palladium.

Brett:

-is the only green in the whole field.

Nick:

We got a little bit of green. We got a lot of red. I mean, we're down around, what? 5 cents, give or take, on copper.

Brett:

Yeah. Yeah. I saw it was like $4.01, I think-

Nick:

Yeah.

Brett:

-on the COMEX, and we got-

Nick:

I think on the COMEX it's shifted to $4.02 now. Because it was under four for a second.

Brett:

Yeah.

Nick:

But I think it's kind of rebounded. Do you have any thoughts on why? Why this one-

Brett:

Not really. I really don't. Maybe just that the dollar's gain was a little stronger this morning.

Nick:

Okay.

Brett:

The stock market's off a little bit. So, I mean, I don't know if that's affecting it. Nickel's getting pounded this morning.

Nick:

Yeah.

Brett:

It was off 20-something cents. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I just feel like it's just... I'm sure there's somebody smart out there that could tell us why.

Nick:

Oh yeah.

Brett:

But I'm not the guy, other than I'm just kind of, "Process what we can process. Get it ready to go." We've got some sales off ahead of this. We're at good sales, so we're just kind of trying to finish those out, and then see what we can move for the rest of the month. So, I don't really have a lot to shed on. I mean the ferrous market was off. We talked about that.

Nick:

Yep.

Brett:

It was off 20 bucks-ish, so I anticipate that to bounce back in May or June, July, I don't know we'll see when. But, I'm still pretty dang optimistic about the commodities in general.

Nick:

Mm-hmm. Yeah, same here. We'll see what happens. I think we'll see ferrous bounce back up this next month. But, we've thought that before, and then things go to shit real quick, you know?

Brett:

Yes, sir. Yeah, it can happen. It can go either way.

Nick:

Yeah. So it's-

Brett:

That knife cuts both ways.

Nick:

Let's see what happens.

Brett:

All right, man. Take care. Have a great week.

Nick:

Thanks, everybody.

Brett:

Bye.
